Privacy Policy

How DEIGHT Events Ltd uses personal data for the website, membership applications, DEIGHT Public Socials, membership administration and identity verification.

Effective from October 2026

1. Who we are

DEIGHT Events Ltd, company number 15135291, operates www.deight.events. DEIGHT Events Ltd is the controller for the personal data covered by this Policy unless we explain that another organisation is responsible for a particular activity.

Registered office: 71-75 Shelton Street, London, England, WC2H 9JQ.

For privacy, application or verification questions, contact info@deight.events.

2. What this Policy covers

This Policy has two connected parts. The Privacy Policy explains how we handle website, membership, booking, communications and technical data. The Application & ID Verification Data Notice explains the additional information used for application review and one-time identity and age verification.

It applies when you browse the website, contact DEIGHT, apply to join, become a member, book or attend a DEIGHT Members' Social, or exercise your data-protection rights.

3. Personal data we collect

3.1 Application data

We may collect your name, email address, age or date of birth, location, city preferences, single status, event preferences, application responses, profile photograph, accessibility information you choose to provide and messages about your application.

3.2 Account, booking and payment data

We may collect membership status, account details, booking and attendance records, event preferences, city and venue information, cancellation or refund information, payment status, transaction references and correspondence about bookings. Payment-card details are handled as stated before payment; DEIGHT does not store full card details unless clearly stated at collection.

3.3 Identity and age-verification data

After approval and before your first DEIGHT Members' Social, approved members complete a one-time photo ID and age check. This may include a photograph, identity-document information, date of birth, verification result, fraud-prevention signals and information about a verification attempt.

3.4 Special-category data

Special-category data can include information about health, disability, sexual orientation or other sensitive matters. We do not request it unless there is a clear and lawful reason. If it is requested, providing sexual-orientation information will be optional unless DEIGHT can demonstrate a lawful and necessary reason otherwise.

3.5 Communications and records

We may collect emails, calls, support requests, complaints, safety or conduct reports, host notes and records of interactions with DEIGHT.

3.6 Technical and website data

We may collect IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, timestamps, security logs and cookie information, subject to your cookie choices. See our Cookie Policy for non-essential cookies and how to manage them.

3.7 Photography, video and venue recording

Identifiable attendee photography or video used for promotional or marketing purposes is used only with the attendee's consent, recorded separately where appropriate. Operational or security recording, and venue-controlled CCTV, may rely on other lawful bases and are handled under the relevant notice.

4. How data is collected

We collect information directly from you through the website, application form, account, booking flow, email or event communications. We may also receive relevant information from the services that support account administration, payments, secure verification, communications, hosting, security and event operations, and from reports or correspondence about safety and conduct.

5. Why we use personal data

6. Lawful bases in plain terms

Depending on the context, we process data because it is needed to take steps at your request before a contract, perform a contract, comply with a legal obligation, pursue a legitimate interest, or because you have given consent where consent is appropriate.

Our legitimate interests may include administering the club, protecting members and venues, preventing fraud, keeping services secure and improving how the website works. We use this basis only where our interest is fair and proportionate and does not override your rights.

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it. Withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out lawfully before withdrawal and may mean that a particular optional service is no longer available.

7. Special-category safeguards

We use special-category data only where necessary and lawful. Where explicit consent is used, it will be presented separately, clearly and withdrawably. DEIGHT will not make someone disclose sexual orientation merely to apply for general membership, and will not infer or record it merely because someone is interested in a particular event category.

8. Application & ID Verification Data Notice

Applications are free and every application is individually reviewed by people. Approved membership is currently free of charge and there is no monthly membership fee. Approval is not guaranteed. We do not ask applicants to upload identity documents with the initial application. After approval and before their first DEIGHT Members' Social, approved applicants complete a one-time photo ID and age check.

Members' Social bookings are paid separately on a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) basis after approval. DEIGHT Public Social bookings are separate and are open to guests and members.

The check is intended to confirm identity and age, reduce fraud and duplicate accounts, support safety and maintain a trusted approved-member community. We seek to retain only verification status, verification date or reference, and the age-confirmation result where that is enough for the purpose. The secure verification process will explain what it collects and how it handles information.

Do not send identity documents by ordinary email. Use only the secure route supplied after approval. A third-party verification service may handle information under contract and will provide its own notice at the point of verification. DEIGHT will share only what is reasonably necessary.

If verification fails, DEIGHT will provide or arrange human review where appropriate. We will not make a solely automated decision with legal or similarly significant effects.

If any biometric method were used, DEIGHT would first need a lawful basis, an Article 9 condition, a Data Protection Impact Assessment, clear information and a suitable alternative route. This is a commitment about safeguards, not a claim that a biometric method is currently in use.

9. Application assessment and human review

DEIGHT may consider genuine interest in meeting people in real life, openness to participating, respectful communication, willingness to comply with the Membership Terms and Code, willingness to verify identity, complete and accurate information, and relevant previous conduct or interactions. Quietness, shyness, nervousness, introversion, disability or a need for reasonable adjustment will not by themselves make an applicant unsuitable.

Applications are assessed consistently and without unlawful discrimination. The possible outcomes are Approved, Further Information Required, or Application Unsuccessful. There are no solely automated membership decisions with legal or similarly significant effects; human review is used.

10. Sharing and recipients

We may share relevant categories of data with services supporting application and CRM administration, account and booking administration, payment handling, secure identity verification, communications, hosting, security, analytics and event operations. We may share information with venues, hosts, emergency services, regulators or law enforcement where reasonably necessary for a booking, safety, legal obligation or investigation.

DEIGHT Connections. After an event, we may invite attendees to indicate whether they would like to stay in touch with another attendee using a short form listing first names only. Where both people indicate an interest, we share their details with each other so they can make contact. Where the interest is not mutual, no details are shared. Taking part is optional, and you can ask us not to include you.

Identity documents, verification records, application answers, contact details and sensitive data are not shared with other attendees. A CRM may be used to manage applications, membership communications and records. Details about processors are available on request from info@deight.events.

Some services may act as separate controllers and will provide their own privacy notice. We share only what is reasonably necessary for the stated purpose.

11. International transfers

Some services may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where a transfer requires safeguards, DEIGHT will use an adequacy decision, appropriate contractual safeguards or another lawful transfer mechanism and will provide further information where required.

12. Retention and deletion

We keep application records only for as long as reasonably necessary to administer applications, handle reviews and complaints, and establish or defend legal claims. Membership, booking, payment and accounting data is kept for the relevant membership period and as reasonably necessary for legal, tax and dispute purposes.

Verification, conduct and safety information is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for the stated safety, fraud-prevention or legal purpose. Marketing suppression records may be retained so we can respect an opt-out. Technical and cookie data follows the Cookie Policy and your choices. When information is no longer reasonably necessary, we delete it, anonymise it or securely dispose of it, subject to legal requirements.

Privacy for prospective members and business contacts

DEIGHT Events Ltd is a private members club for verified singles operating across the Midlands, including Nottingham, Birmingham, Leicester and surrounding areas. Our registered office is 71-75 Shelton Street, London, England, WC2H 9JQ. Our company number is 15135291. We are the controller. Contact info@deight.events.

For prospective members and business contacts, we may hold your name, job title, company, city, business email address, LinkedIn profile address, and a record of the emails we have sent.

This information comes from publicly available professional profiles and business directories, and from information given to us directly.

We use it under legitimate interests to introduce our members club to suitable professionals across the Midlands. We keep a documented legitimate interests assessment explaining why this is appropriate and how we balance it against your rights.

Our lawful bases are legitimate interests for business-to-business introductions, and consent where consent is required.

To opt out, reply “stop” to any email or email info@deight.events. We will remove you from our list straight away and stop all contact. Opting out of marketing is absolute and is actioned without delay. You do not need to give a reason.

In this context, you have the rights to access, correction, erasure, restriction and objection, including an absolute right to object to direct marketing. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

We keep these contact details only as long as needed for that purpose. If you object, we delete your details but keep a minimal suppression record — your email address and a do-not-contact flag — so we can honour your request.

We do not sell your information and we do not use it for automated decision-making.

13. Security, access and breaches

We use access controls and reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. Access is limited to people and services that need it for a legitimate purpose. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure.

If a personal-data breach creates a risk to people's rights and freedoms, DEIGHT will assess it and report it to the Information Commissioner's Office where required. We will notify affected people where the law requires this.

14. Your data-protection rights

Subject to legal limits, you may ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability or objection, and you may withdraw consent where consent is the lawful basis. Contact info@deight.events to exercise a right or ask a question.

We will normally respond within one month. If a request is complex or you make several requests, the period may be extended by up to two further months where the law allows; we will tell you within the first month and explain why.

15. Automated decision-making and profiling

DEIGHT does not make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Application, membership and verification issues receive human review. We do not infer sexual orientation from application answers, event interests or attendance.

16. Minimum age

DEIGHT membership and relevant private Members' Socials are for adults aged 30 and over. DEIGHT does not knowingly collect applications from children. If we learn that data was collected from a child without an appropriate lawful basis, we will delete it where reasonably possible.

17. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in law, technology, services or DEIGHT operations. The current version will remain available on this page and material changes will be signposted where appropriate.

18. Complaints

Please contact DEIGHT first at info@deight.events so we can try to resolve your concern. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):

Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
Cheshire

You can use the ICO complaints website at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
